Is Anushka Shetty Suffering From Rare Disease?

Anushka Shetty has been grappling with a rare genetic condition that triggers uncontrollable laughter once it begins.

In a candid interview, she shared, “I have a condition where once I start laughing, I can’t stop for 15 to 20 minutes. Even during comedy scenes on set, I’ve ended up rolling on the floor with laughter, sometimes halting filming.”

This condition, termed Pseudobulbar Affect (PBA), causes sudden and inappropriate bursts of laughter or crying. These outbursts often do not align with one’s actual emotions but stem from underlying neurological issues or brain injuries.

Medical experts note the challenges in managing PBA, as these episodes can occur unexpectedly and persist beyond the triggering event. They can significantly impact daily life, leading to feelings of embarrassment, anxiety, and social withdrawal.

While the exact origins of PBA remain unclear, disruptions in neurological pathways responsible for emotional regulation are believed to play a role.

Currently, treatments for PBA aim to alleviate symptoms rather than provide a cure. Options include low doses of medications like antidepressants, which can help reduce the frequency and intensity of episodes of laughter or crying.
