Two Disasters Forced Production House To Sell Properties

Pooja Entertainment, a prominent name in Bollywood for over four decades under the leadership of Vashu Bhagnani, has recently faced severe setbacks. The company, known for producing numerous blockbusters, including those featuring top stars, has been forced to sell its expansive seven-floor office to cover losses amounting to ₹250 crore.

Starting from January, Pooja Entertainment has downsized drastically, laying off 80% of its workforce. The downturn was precipitated by recent film failures such as “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” and “Ganapath,” which despite star-studded casts including Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Amitabh Bachchan, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Kriti Sanon, failed miserably at the box office. Distributors reported empty theaters from the second day of release.

Despite these setbacks, Vashu Bhagnani remains committed to production, albeit from a smaller office. This situation underscores a crucial lesson: investing heavily in star power without prioritizing content can lead to significant financial losses. Producers, regardless of their stature, must adapt to the evolving dynamics of OTT and digital markets to avoid similar fates.

In essence, the sale of Pooja Entertainment’s office serves as a stark reminder to the industry at large about the importance of strategic financial management and content quality in sustaining long-term success.
