Director Nag Ashwin’s magnum opus Kalki 2898 AD starring Prabhas is finally coming out in a few minutes. The film is releasing on June 27, which is a Thursday and not the conventional Friday.
This mammoth-budget movie, costing 600 crores, is based on the Mahabharata and other Indian stories. It shows a future world in the 29th century and the arrival of Kalki, the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Some people wonder why it’s being released on a Thursday instead of the usual Friday. Is it to cash in on the four-day weekend or is there any other reason?
One reason could be numerology. The year 2898 is important in the film and is based on Aryabhatta’s calculations and Indian scriptures. The sum of the digits in 2898 is 27, which matches the release date.

The filmmakers haven’t explained the June 27 release date, but astrologers think it might be related to the Hindu calendar.
According to the Vikram and Saka calendars, late June 2024 marks the start of the Ashadha month, beginning on June 23 and ending on July 21. This year, the Krishna Paksha (half) of the month is only 13 days long instead of the usual 15, which is rare and last happened over 5000 years ago before the Kurukshetra War in the Mahabharata.
Kalki 2898 AD is coming out on the sixth day of this unusual Krishna Paksha of Ashadha.
Nag Ashwin has said that Kalki 2898 AD is a sequel to the Mahabharata, adding another link to the epic.
