Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra To Launch EVs In Coming Months

The Indian automotive industry has recorded significant process in the EV segment with new startups and established OEMs developing EVs and their components. In the passenger vehicle EV segment, carmakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra are planning to introduce new products in coming months.

While Maruti will foray into the EV sector with the production-ready version of the eVX, Hyundai will bring in its first mass-market EV – Creta. Both these EVs are scheduled to go on sale in early 2025. The indigenous automakers, Tata and Mahindra, confirmed the Curvv EV, Harrier EV and XUV.e8 for early 2025 and late 2024, respectively. Let’s take a look at key details of these upcoming EVs.

Maruti eVX

Maruti Suzuki EVX Concept EV

The production-ready version of the Maruti Suzuki eVX will be the first electric offering from the Indo-Japanese automaker in India. The model will be based on Toyota’s 27PL skateboard platform, and measure 4.3 metres in length. Its likely to come with a 60kWh battery pack with LFP blade cell. The eVX is expected to offer a range of up to 550km. Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat-based facility will serve as production hub for the eVX.

Hyundai Creta EV

The Hyundai Creta EV is reported to share its powertrain with the global-spec Kona EV. The latter comes with a 45kWh battery pack and a front mounted electric motor. Its power and torque outputs stand at 138bhp and 255Nm, respectively. The Creta EV will be based on its facelifted ICE version, which was introduced earlier this year. The electric SUV will feature a few EV-specific design elements, while most of its styling bits and features will be exactly similar to the regular Creta.

Tata Curvv EV/Harrier EV

Tata Harrier EV

Tata Currv EV will arrive before the Harrier EV in the market. Specifications of both EVs are still under the wraps. Though, these models are expected to feature Tata’s advanced Ziptron technology. The forthcoming Tata EVs will be designed on the brand’s new Acti.ev platform and come with features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, a 360 degree camera, a new twin-spoke steering wheel, ADAS tech, etc.

Mahindra XUV.e8

Mahindra XUV.e8

Mahindra XUV.e8 will be the electric iteration of the XUV700 SUV, which will come with a battery pack of up to 80kWh. It will feature the AWD drivetrain system and offer power around 230bhp – 350bhp. The XUVe.8 will be the first production-ready Mahindra to underpin the new born-electric INGLO platform.
