Governor Bose Demands White Paper on West Bengal’s Financial Crisis

Kolkata: Close on the heels of filing a defamation suit against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee at the Calcutta High Court, governor CV Ananda Bose has now sought her to furnish a white paper on “financial breakdown” in the state.

The Raj Bhavan, after Mr Bose met union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi, said in a statement on Saturday evening, “The fiscal situation of West Bengal is confronting multiple fiscal risks and public finance management issues exposing serious lapses from the part of Govt.”

It elaborated, “Considering the grave nature of the economic scenario in the State Governor calls upon the Chief Minister upon the authority vested in him under Article 167 of the Constitution read with Rule 30 of the Rules of Business for West Bengal framed under Article 166 of the Constitution, to place a comprehensive report on the State’s financial situation before the Council of Ministers and issue a White Paper for the information of the people of the State.”

Referring to “Critical Analysis by experts” the Raj Bhavan also pointed out, “Those who waste public money should pay for it. Corruption, violence, overspending and embezzlement of public money are the three characteristics of the present Government and that has put Bengal in a quagmire and a financial blackhole.”

It observed, “The ruling class is flourishing. Government’s luxury is dancing over the impoverished bodies of the poor. The rich and the corrupt are becoming richer and richer and bolder and bolder and bolder while the poor is becoming poorer and resigned to fate…Democracy is ‘of the people, by the people and for the people’. In Bengal, unfortunately, it is Off the people, bye the people and never for the people and farther from the people.”

According to the Raj Bhavan, “This is the balance sheet of the misrule by the misguided govt. where ignorance covers itself with arrogance and institutional arrogance has been nurtured into an abominable art. The children of Bengal are being looted. The Government feels as if they have inherited Bengal from their forefathers. But they have only borrowed it from the children. All that

you borrow from our children you are bound to pay it back. Stop this looting of our children. Stop this looting of future generation. Who are responsible for this – anopheles and culex.”
