Mahindra To Launch A New Tata Nexon EV Rival SUV

The Tata Nexon EV has been dominating the EV (electric vehicle) segment ever since its market arrival in 2019. In terms of pricing and positioning, the Mahindra XUV400 EV is its direct rival, but it isn’t generating the expected volume for the indigenous automaker. Aiming to strengthen its EV game, Mahindra & Mahindra will introduce a new subcompact electric SUV – the XUV 3XO EV (codenamed S240). According to a fresh media report, the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV will enter series production by November 2024, followed by its launch. Mahindra plans to manufacture nearly 1,500 – 1,800 units of its new compact SUV.

Measuring under 4 meters in length, the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV is likely to receive a few EV-specific design changes over its ICE counterpart. It’s expected to feature a newly designed front grille, new drop-down LED DRLs, a slightly tweaked bumper and headlamps, a larger central air intake, a full-width LED light bar at the rear, C-shaped taillamps, and new alloy wheels, all of which will be carried forward from its regular version.

The interior layout and features of the new Mahindra EV will be similar to the standard XUV 3XO. There will be a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. The higher trims will come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with an amplifier, rear AC vents, a wireless charger, Adrenox Connect in-car connectivity, a rear Type-C charger, and an all-LED lighting system.

The forthcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV will use the 34.5kWh battery pack borrowed from the lower trims of the XUV400 EV. More details on its specs and range are yet to be revealed.

The prices of the new Mahindra EV will surely be higher than its ICE counterpart. Its entry-level variant is expected to cost around Rs 15 lakh, and the fully-loaded top trim might be priced at nearly Rs 17 lakh (all ex-showroom).
