One of the biggest news from Hyundai is that the automaker is set to challenge the growing market of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The company is planning to introduce a compact crossover (measuring under 4 meters in length) based on the Hyundai Bayonwhich is sold in select global markets. Codenamed Bc4i, the new Hyundai compact SUV is reported to arrive in India in the fiscal year 2027, within an estimated price range of Rs 10 lakh – Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). If launched at this price point, it will also compete with cars like the Toyota Taisor, Tata Nexon, and Citroen C3.
The report further states that the new Hyundai sub-4 meter crossover will share its platform with the new-generation i20 hatchback. Hyundai’s Talegaon, Maharashtra-based manufacturing facility will serve as the production hub for the Bayon-based SUV. With a capacity of nearly 1 lakh units per annum, this plant will also be used for the production of the new-generation Venue, which is due for 2025.
Talking about the Hyundai Bayon, the compact SUV was first introduced back in 2021 as a replacement for the i20 Active in several global markets. In the company’s product lineup, it sits between the Venue and Creta SUVs. The compact crossover derives some of its design elements from the Kona facelift, such as the arrow-shaped headlamps, the rear-end theme, and thin DRLs. It has body cladding with a tapering roofline and faux skid plates at the front and back.
Similar to the exterior, the interior of the new Hyundai compact SUV will resemble the i20 hatch. It will have an all-black dashboard, steering wheel and switchgear, a 10.25-inch display, and many more features.
Globally, the Hyundai Bayon is available with 1.2L petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engines, making 84bhp and 100bhp/120bhp, respectively. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed iMT. Engine details of the India-spec model are still under wraps, though it’s likely to borrow the powertrain setup from the i20 hatchback and Venue subcompact SUV.
