NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer and legendary commentator Ravi Shastri has been making the most of his post-T20 World Cup time in the United Kingdom. In a recent social media post on ‘X’, Shastri shared his excitement about bumping into the former tennis sensation Maria Sharapova.
Known for her exceptional talent and style on the court, Sharapova left an indelible mark on the sport of tennis.Shastri acknowledged her impact, describing her as “gorgeous” and a “fashion icon” who brought “sheer Quality and Style” to the game.
“Great to bump into the gorgeous @MariaSharapova. Did wonders for the game of Tennis for the sheer Quality and Style she brought to the court. A Fashion Icon,” wrote Shastri, who was recently seen enjoying the Formula One action at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone during the weekend.

In addition to his chance meeting with Sharapova, Shastri also shared a memorable moment with tennis legend Rod Laver a few days back. Describing Laver as “arguably the greatest in the Game of Tennis,” Shastri expressed his admiration for the Australian’s humility, referring to him as “Humility personified.”
“Chance meeting with The Rocket at Silverstone. Arguably the greatest in the Game of Tennis. Humility personified. @rodlaver,” penned Shastri.

During his tenure as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team from 2017 to 2021, Shastri led the team to significant achievements, including consecutive Test series victories against Australia. Furthermore, his acumen played a crucial role in shaping the team’s success on the international stage.
Recently, when asked about the possibility of coaching in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Shastri expressed a lack of interest, stating, “Not really. Not after doing India for 7 years.” However, he left the door open for future opportunities, stating, “You never know what can come up in the future and how involved you might want to get.”
