Over the last weekend, a group of masked robbers with guns and sledgehammers broke into the Bombay Jewelry Company in Berkeley and stole $500,000 worth of jewelry, according to the police.

The robbery happened on Saturday at the store on University Ave. near 10th Street. Seven to eight robbers used sledgehammers to smash display cases and waved guns to scare the staff and customers. They took jewelry worth about $500,000.

The alarm company called the police, who arrived quickly. Witnesses said the robbers came in a black sedan and a silver sedan. The police are now investigating the robbery.

The police are asking anyone with information about these robberies to come forward.

This is the third big robbery of an Indian jewelry store in Northern California this year.

Last month, a group of about 20 masked robbers broke into PNG Jewelers in Sunnyvale on a Wednesday afternoon. They used hammers to smash the glass doors and display cases, stealing jewelry quickly.

The robbers got away in several cars before the police arrived, but a police chase led to the arrest of five suspects.

Earlier this year, Bhindi Jewelers in Fremont was robbed by 17 men on a Wednesday afternoon. They used guns to scare people, smashed display cases, and stole gold and diamond jewelry.
