The Citroen Basalt coupe SUV is all set to launch in India in August 2024. It will be the fourth model to come under the brand’s C-Cubed program, following the C3 hatchback, eC3 electric hatchback, and C3 Aircross SUV. The carmaker has already confirmed that Basalt’s electric version is also in the pipeline, likely to launch in early 2025. The upcoming coupe SUV will be produced at Citroen’s Tiruvallur-based facility in Tamil Nadu and will also be exported to South American markets.
Under the hood, the Basalt will employ a 1.2L turbo petrol engine producing 110bhp. Transmission choices will include a manual and a torque converter automatic unit. Besides sharing its powertrain with existing C-Cubed models, the coupe SUV will borrow most of its features from the C3 Aircross. However, it is expected to come with wireless phone charging, keyless entry, electric folding mirrors, push-button start, automatic climate control, and cruise control.
Measuring around 4.3 meters in length, the Citroen Basalt shares a strong resemblance with the C3 Aircross. Its front grille will have a slightly different finish for the grille inserts, featuring the brand’s signature logo at the top. Unlike other C-Cubed models, the coupe SUV will feature projector headlamps along with a faux silver skid plate and LED DRLs.
The side profile will be adorned with cladding on the squared-off wheel arches, alloy wheels with a gun-metal finish, a sloping roofline, a pinched window line on both sides, and a C-pillar with a blacked-out extension of the window line. The rear profile appears similar to the C3 Aircross. It will sport a dual-tone rear bumper in black and silver finish, newly-designed taillamps, and new LED signatures.
In the coupe SUV segment, the Citroen Basalt will go directly against the upcoming Tata Curvv. In terms of pricing, it will also compete against popular midsize SUVs including the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, VW Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
