The Mahindra Thar 5-door lifestyle off-road vehicle is one of the most talked about upcoming products in the Indian automotive industry. The model has been in testing for a long time and is now taking its final shape prior to its official debut on 15th August 2024. Recently, the SUV’s test mules were spotted in three different color schemes – Black, White, and Red. Compared to the 3-door Thar, the 5-door version will certainly be longer, more premium, and a more capable off-roader. A few cosmetic changes will further distinguish it from its younger sibling. The top-end trim of the SUV will come with exclusive features including a panoramic sunroof, Adrenox connectivity, and Level 2 ADAS tech. The ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite will provide access to multiple safety features including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, front collision warning, lane keep assist, high beam assist, smart pilot assist, traffic sign recognition, and high beam assist. Similar to the XUV700, it might also get driver drowsiness detection and a blind view monitoring system.
The list of features will also include a dual-screen setup with a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, keyless entry, ventilated seats, powered ORVMs, LED lighting system, and more.
The engine setup of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV will include a 1.5L diesel, 2.2L diesel, and 2.0L petrol motors, generating 117bhp with 300Nm, 130bhp with 300Nm, and 150bhp with 300Nm, respectively. All these powertrains will be sourced from the 3-door Thar. The lifestyle off-road SUV will be offered with both manual and automatic gearbox options. While the lower variants will get an RWD setup, the higher trims will be exclusively offered with the 4X4 drivetrain system.
Select Mahindra dealers have already started accepting bookings for the Thar 5-door. Its prices are likely to be announced on 15th August with its world debut or a few weeks later its unveiling.
