The domestic box office is largely polarized in favor of South films, it appears. The same can be understood if we look at the biggest grossing domestic films at the Indian box office.
Topping the list obviously is Baahubali 2, followed by KGF, RRR, and now Kalki. The top 5 list has only one Hindi film and it is Jawan.

According to the numbers shared on Wikipedia, Baahubali 2 with a domestic(Indian) gross of Rs 1400+ crore is standing at the top. Beating this tally is nearly impossible for the time being. KGF 2, with Rs 1000+ crore domestic gross, comes second.
RRR, with Rs 944 Cr is third and though Kalki(Rs 772 Cr) looked poised to beat this tally, it didn’t quite happen. RRR was mightily benefited from the exceptional run in the Telugu states, we must note.

Jawan is 5th of on the list with Rs 761 crore and this is the only Bollywood film in top 5, and ironically, it is also directed by a South filmmaker Atlee.
As things stand, Telugu cinema has 3 out of the top 5 highest-grossing films domestically, while Bollywood, with all its resources, has only one. Though toppling Baahubali 2 is impossible for a Bolly film, beating RRR or KGF must be a realistic target for them henceforth.
