Hyundai Exter CNG With Dual-Cylinder Tech Priced at Rs 8.50 Lakh

Hyundai Exter micro SUV from the South Korean automaker recently completed its first successful year in the country. To celebrate its anniversary, the company introduced the Exter Knight Edition with a few cosmetic and feature enhancements. Now, Hyundai Motor India has rolled out the Exter with the new dual-cylinder CNG technology, called Hy-CNG Duo. The Hyundai Exter CNG is being offered in three variants – S, SX, and Knight SX – priced at Rs 8.50 lakh, Rs 9.23 lakh, and Rs 9.38 lakh, respectively. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.

The new CNG version of the Exter has two small CNG cylinders (30 liters each) with an integrated ECU (engine control unit), allowing a smooth transition between both fuels. The Hyundai Exter CNG uses the same 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled with the CNG kit. The setup delivers a maximum power of 69bhp and 95.2Nm of torque.

Transmission duties are performed by a 5-speed manual gearbox. The carmaker claims that the Exter CNG offers a fuel efficiency of 27.1km/kg. The two cylinders have been fitted underneath the boot floor, as we have seen in Tata’s CNG cars. This arrangement creates more boot space compared to the regular single CNG cylinder placed in the cargo area.

When it comes to features, the Exter SX trim offers an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice recognition, steering-mounted controls, rear AC vents, USB Type-C port (front), electrically adjustable wing mirrors, rear power windows, four speakers, rear parcel tray, day-night IRVM, a sunroof, cruise control, rear defogger, rear parking camera, tire pressure monitoring system, projector headlamps, shark fin antenna, and 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

After the Hyundai Exter CNG, the carmaker is likely to introduce its new Hy-CNG Duo technology on its entry-level Grand i10 Nios hatchback and Aura compact sedan.
