MG Motor India has planned five new product launches scheduled to arrive by the end of 2025. Speaking to a media publication, Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director of MG Motor India, said that the five new MG cars received official approval for the India launch with the support of JSW Group. Just so you know, SAIC Motor and JSW Group announced a strategic joint venture in late 2023. Under this JV, MG will expand its presence in India with the introduction of both NEVs and ICE models, while JSW, with a 35 percent stake in the JV, supports the plan and expands production plant capacity.
Details and names of the upcoming MG cars are still under wraps. However, Chaba confirmed that the first model is slated to hit showrooms in September or October, 2024. It will be a spacious crossover with plenty of features, priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. The production is said to offer the “comfort of a sedan with the utility of an SUV.” It’s likely to be the MG Cloud EVa crossover-styled MPV, which was spotted testing multiple times in the country.
The second upcoming MG car could be an electric hatchback to challenge the dominance of the Tata Tiago EV in the entry-level EV segment. It’s likely to be the MG Bingosharing the GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) platform with the Comet EV. The electric hatch might also share its powertrain with the Comet, which comes with a 31.9kWh battery pack and offers a range of 333 km.
MG is also reported to be working on a new D-segment SUV that might be offered with electric and PHEV powertrain options. Measuring around 4.8 meters in length, the new MG SUV is likely to be based on the Wuling Starlight S. The automaker could also bring in the MG Cyberster two-door electric sports car and R7 coupe SUV targeting premium segments.
