AFFI demands from the government to impose 100 percent import duty on apples

Srinagar Kashmir, one of the most beautiful states of India, is known for its beauty as much as it is for another thing, that is Kashmiri apples. The taste of Kashmiri apples is different from all others, but now AFFI has made a big demand to the government regarding this apple. This was said in the national conference of apple farmers in Kashmir district.

On Sunday, the Indian Apple Farmers Association has given a statement in which they have said that, ‘to save the local farmers’, the import duty of apples should be increased. Now, up to 100 percent import duty should be levied on the import of apples.

Said in the national conference of apple farmers

Talking to reporters after a national convention of apple farmers in Kulgam district, CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami said the government should stop corporatisation of the apple industry and impose 100 per cent import duty to protect local farmers.

Minimum purchase price 50% of the retail price

Tarigami said a resolution was passed at the conference demanding that 50 per cent of the retail price be paid as minimum purchase price. The AFFI conference also demanded insurance coverage for these in the public sector, besides calling for a complete ban on spurious pesticides and fertilisers.

Reduce import duty from 70% to 50%

He demanded that storage facilities should be given directly to farmers at concessional rates. “The government is giving 50 per cent subsidy to corporate companies to build Controlled Atmosphere Storages (CAS) to run them on commercial rents,” he said. AFFI National Coordinator Rakesh Singha attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for signing an agreement with US President Joe Biden to reduce import duty from 70 per cent to 50 per cent.

Common people are unable to pick apples

“Due to corporatisation of the apple industry, common people are unable to afford apples,” Singha said, demanding a price policy to ensure 50 per cent of the retail price as purchase price for farmers.
