British Olympic tennis champion Andy Murray, who for years was his country’s biggest hope at all Grand Slam tournaments, has announced his retirement. Two-time Olympic men’s singles champion Andy Murray confirmed on Tuesday that he will retire after the Paris Olympics.
“Just arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament,” 37-year-old Andy Murray posted on Instagram. Tennis at the Paris Olympics begins Saturday at Roland Garros.
Murray won his first gold medal on grasscourt at the 2012 London Olympics in which he defeated Roger Federer in three sets. After this, he won the title in 2016 by defeating Juan Martin del Potro on hardcourt in Rio de Janeiro. Murray underwent hip replacement surgery in 2019.
Andy Murray has won three Grand Slam titles so far. He won the Wimbledon title in 2013 and 2016 and the US Open title in 2012.
