The Tata Nexon subcompact SUV recently achieved a milestone of 7 lakh sales in India since its market arrival in 2017. Currently, the model lineup is available with two engine options: a 1.2L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel. While the gasoline unit produces 120bhp and 170Nm of torque, the diesel engine delivers a maximum power of 115bhp and 260Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT, a 5-speed manual, and a 7-speed DCT automatic with paddle shifters.
Considering the increasing demand for CNG vehicles, Tata Motors is planning to introduce a CNG version of its top-selling Nexon subcompact SUV. Its official launch date is yet to be announced. However, a recent media report states that the Tata Nexon CNG will go on sale in September 2024, just before the festive season.
The Tata Nexon CNG will be the first vehicle in India to come with a turbo-petrol CNG powertrain. Similar to Tata’s other CNG models, the subcompact SUV will feature twin CNG cylinder technology with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Transmission duties will be performed by a manual gearbox, although there is a possibility that Tata might offer an AMT gearbox, as seen in the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG.
When launched, the Nexon CNG will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG. Compared to its regular counterparts, the CNG version will likely be priced at a premium of around Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000.
Meanwhile, the indigenous automaker is gearing up to launch the all-new Tata Curvv EV on August 7, 2024. Its ICE version will arrive nearly a month after its electric iteration. The coupe SUV, which will target the mass-market midsize SUV segment, will come with several features, including a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, ADAS tech, a dual screen setup, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and wireless smartphone connectivity.
