Recently, the uncut trailer of Accident Or Conspiracy: Godhra was released by the makers and it has gathered much attention. The film was released in theatres on 19 July. It has gained mixed reviews from both sides of the political divide. Directed by M.K Shivaaksh the film sets out to bring the truth of the Godhra case in a courtroom drama. Its star cast includes Ranvir Shorey, Manoj Joshi, Hitu Kanodia, Danisha Ghumra, Akshita Namdev amongst others.
Produced by OM Trinetra Films and Artverse Studios, the film is based on the Godhra Riots of 2002. The critical reception of the film has been lukewarm and many called it a biassed representation. Time and again attempts are made to unfold the mysterious happenings of the case with such films. But if the film is not handled well it does not present any peace promoting resolution and only furthers the divide in our society. It will soon be met by Vikrant Massey’s The Sabarmati Report based on the same case which is set to release on 2 August.

The release of films around this case have aroused fans’ curiosity and educated them to some extent. However, it is also true that if a filmmaker does not portray both sides sensitively and leans on one side of the narrative it is bound to feel inadequate and incomplete.
