NEW DELHI: India suffered their first setback in the group stage of the men’s hockey competition at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, losing 1-2 to the reigning champions Belgium despite taking an early lead.
Abhishek put India ahead in the 18th minute, but Belgium staged a strong second-half comeback, equalizing through Thibeau Stockbroekx in the 33rd minute and securing the victory with John-John Dohmen’s goal in the 44th minute.

The win ensured Belgium remained undefeated in the tournament thus far.
Both India and Belgium have already secured their spots in the quarterfinals from Pool B.
Prior to this match, India had beaten New Zealand 3-2, drawn 1-1 with Argentina, and emerged victorious against Ireland with a 2-0 scoreline.
The Indian team, led by Harmanpreet, will face Australia in their final pool match on Friday.
