MG Motor India recently confirmed a new electric crossover utility vehicle (CUV), scheduled to launch around the 2024 festive season. Based on the Wuling Cloud EV that’s retailed in select global markets, the upcoming MG electric CUV is claimed to offer comfort like a sedan and space like an SUV. In India, the model will be introduced with a new nameplate – MG Windsor EV. The company has already trademarked the name and will make an official announcement on 15th August 2024.
The forthcoming compact electric MPV from MG is estimated to be priced below Rs 20 lakh. In terms of pricing, it will compete with multiple EVs including Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV. In the company’s product lineup, the Windsor EV will sit below the MG ZS EV.
Specifications of the MG Windsor are yet to be revealed by the OEM. The globally sold Wuling Cloud EV (which will be Windsor in India) comes with two battery packs – 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh, delivering claimed ranges of 360km and 460km, respectively. The battery packs are paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted on the front axle, producing a maximum power of 134bhp. Read: 5 New MG Cars Launching By 2025 End
The interior of the new MG EV will be similar to the global-spec Cloud EV. The latter comes with a floating touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. The CUV also has a minimalist dashboard along with a two-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, AC vents, a 360-degree camera, round door-mounted speakers, an ADAS suite, and a sunroof.
The Windsor EV will be a 5-seater MPV with a fully reclinable front seat with a sofa mode. However, the India-spec model might miss out on some of the aforementioned features. Some of its design highlights will be all-LED, connected headlamps, an LED light bar above the front grille, flush door handles, extended quarter glass, a large glasshouse, sharply raked front and rear windscreens, and full-width LED light bars at the rear.
