She became the first Indian female wrestler ever to reach the final at the Olympic Games, and stands on the cusp of a gold medal. She defeated Yusneylys Guzmán 5-0 in the semifinal and fight for gold on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day she produced a stunning upset that shook the wrestling community, when she handed reigning champion Yui Susaki a tactical defeat in the first round. Vinesh Phogat then backed that up with a hard-fought quarter-final win to enter the semifinals of the 50kg category.
