The Indian music industry might not be as big as the western independent music industry and artists but Spotify’s latest statistics suggests that when it comes to volume, the Indian artists are not behind anyone. Indian background singer and music superstar, Arijit Singh has become the most followed artist on Spotify globally.

Arijit Singh has surpassed some of the biggest pop stars of the time like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. The Hindi music legend now has a few thousand more followers than the global pop icon Taylor Swift. Arijit has more than 117 million followers on Spotify.
This is a huge achievement given that many people in India still don’t use Spotify to stream their music. The High population of the country is also one of the big contributing factors to this achievement. None of the other artists on top of the list rely heavily on one particular country for the followers.

Even though Arijit Singh is now the most followed artist on Spotify, his net worth is nowhere near any of the top artists that are there on the list. Musicians and artists in India struggle to work independently and most of the profits are made by the label they work for.
