Google Wallet is becoming a lot more useful over the past year or so. You can use this app on your Samsung phone to save credit/debit cards, movie tickets, boarding passes, digital ID cards, and membership cards. Now, Google lets you save everything that can be converted into digital passes.
Google Wallet can convert almost everything in the form of digital passes
A few months ago, during Google I/O 2024, Google announced that it would introduce a new feature that lets users convert physical documents into digital passes. The new version of the Google Wallet app has an option called ‘Everything Else,’ which replaces the old ‘Photo’ option. You can use it to scan a photo of any pass, like an event ticket, gym membership, or insurance card, to create its digital version using AI.
Once you capture a photo of a physical pass, Google uses AI to extract fields and related information. It will also let you edit those fields or even add your own. You can also change the type of pass to the following:
- Business Card
- Car Insurance
- Driver’s License
- Events & Tickets
- Health Insurance
- ID Card
- Library Card
- Loyalty Card
- Passport
- Residence Permit
- Student ID
- Tax ID Card
- Vehicle Registration
- Voter ID Card
- Other
If you capture a photo of anything that contains sensitive information, like your health or government ID information, Google Wallet will keep it only on the device it was scanned with. It won’t sync that information with other devices using the same Google account. You would also need to identify yourself while opening those passes in the app. You can change their private classification, though.
Google Wallet also allows you to view the actual photo of the pass you scanned while viewing its digital version. This new updated version of Google Wallet is now rolling out widely in the USA.
