Still only ridden a little over 300 kms so too early to even pen riding details.

The Tiger 900 Rally Pro sadly has gotten really expensive with the new 2024 edition, more so in places like MH where CBUs attract 20% duties. The new BMW F 900 is receiving rave reviews and while I’m sure it’ll be much more expensive than the previous 850, it will really turn the heat on the Tiger – it’s said to be an incredible machine. I know a couple of folks who have refrained from plonking on the 1300 GS yet until they see the 900 in person, so keen are they to wait and check out the 900 too?

Coming to the 1300, really well summed up //M. The bike is hefty in isolation but without a doubt doesn’t have the actual or visible bulk of the previous 1200 / 1250s. Certainly slimmed down on the relative scale. Some smaller blokes like me are delighted for that while others will miss the heft. Speccing the Trophy for the India bike with the taller Comfort (H) seat was a misstep IMO. They should have retained the 850 mm comfort seat for the Trophy as well with the H seat variant as an accessory for anyone that wants a taller setup. They should hopefully also get the rally seat as an accessory in due course.

The 1300 is definitely quick, without a doubt with loads of torque giving that excitingly quick take-off. Like all more modern iterations of engines (think Multi 1200 / 1260 S moving on to V4S), the engine has become smoother and in the process loses a bit of that old-school growl which has its own charm. But it still retains the core characteristics of the boxer including the trademark sideways shuffle when you revv it.

For anyone who wants to see three generations of the GS alongside here is a pic of just those three bikes with none other in the lineup. Unfortunately, it’s not a like-for-like colour scheme and the setting is late night and dark. But that’s a (2018) 1200GS / (2024) 1300GS and (2023/24) 1250GS alongside – Rallye, Triple Black and Trophy editions respectively. Bear in mind the 1300 is buck naked with no guards or luggage, plus in black so that exacerbates the visual lack of bulk between the 1300 vis a vis the previous models.

So got my Triple Black Model 2 delivered last Friday and it’s literally only today morning that I managed to get my first highway ride in. This is the variant with the adaptive ride height feature.

Got the luggage set up and installed on the bike along with the lower crash bar during the course of the week. Plenty more still to come through and be installed.

Still only ridden a little over 300 kms so too early to even pen riding details. Will come up with an ownership thread when I’m past the first service and have 1000+ kms under my belt. In the meantime, some pics of the bike over the course of last week up to earlier today. ‘

So far the only accessories I’ve installed are the OEM lower crash bar, cylinder head guard and the entire SW Motech adventure rack and side pannier mounts for my SW Motech luggage (Sys Bags L and Trax top case).

In the immediate future, I am expecting the following to come through:

  • Headlight guard (Wunderlich)
  • F & R Axle sliders
  • Radiator guards (Evotech)
  • Side stand enlarger (Givi).
  • Rider footpegs (TBD)
  • ABS sensor guard

Will figure out what else I might need in due course but the above are the basic stuff that have / will go on for sure.
