Hyderabad: A 14-year-old boy was mowed down by a vehicle of an ex-IPS officer on Tuesday evening on the RK Puram flyover. The incident happened in Neredmet police station limits on the night of August 13.
Kartik, 14, was standing near RK Puram flyover when former IPS officer Vijay Kumar, who retired as an inspector general of police in 2000, travelling in a car and accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of a break, leading to Kartik, who was standing in front of the car, getting crushed under the wheels.
A case was registered against the ex-IPS officer under Section 35 of the BNSS. The 84-year-old IPS officer was not arrested as in the case where the jail term is less than 7 years and only notices are issued to the person responsible.
Meanwhile, Kartik’s mother expressed grief over his death. She said, “I had big plans for him. After my husband died 4 years ago, he was my only hope. I wanted him to grow, get educated and to get him into the Olympics too.”
