History-making shooter Manu Bhaker showed the pistol she used to win two bronze medals while the Indian men’s hockey team, which secured its second consecutive bronze at the Paris Games, presented the Prime Minister with a signed hockey stick from all the players.
The team, including retired player PR Sreejesh and captain Harmanpreet Singh, posed with the PM, proudly wearing their bronze medals.
Bhaker, who became the first Indian to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics, explained to PM Modi about the pistol with which she clinched the bronze medals in both the 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed events in Paris.
Sarabjot Singh, who partnered with Bhaker to win the 10m air pistol mixed event bronze, also interacted with the Prime Minister, along with Swapnil Kusale, who earned a bronze in the 50m rifle 3 positions.
Wrestler Aman Sehrawat, who won a bronze in the men’s freestyle 57kg category, was seen posing with Prime Minister Modi, holding an India jersey signed by him.
Silver medallist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is yet to return to India as he has gone to Germany for consultation on a groin injury and to explore participation in the Diamond League Meetings in Europe.
PM Modi addressed and interacted with several members of the contingent, including shuttler Lakshya Sen.
Tokyo Olympics medallists Lovlina Borgohain (boxing) and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting) were also present among the athletes who met with the Prime Minister.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha were also in attendance.
Earlier that day, the members of the Indian contingent were at the historic Red Fort, where Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day.
