The SmartThings Family Care feature will be available SmartThings app users in the US starting August 16, 2024. It uses the SmartThings smart home platform to offer services that are beneficial while offering care to the elderly and those who need similar assistance. SmartThings Family Care can be accessed from the SmartThings app’s Life tab.

Samsung says caregivers can use SmartThings Family Care to get activity notifications, location-based actions, medication reminders, and schedule management for compatible devices. Caregivers can get alerts if any abnormalities are detected in the daily routines of their loved ones. It can detect the first activity of the day using a person’s Galaxy phone and send a notification to their caregiving family member to let them know they are okay.

People can get reminders to check their blood pressure and blood sugar. They can also schedule reminders so that they can get alerts for their doctor’s appointments and medications via Galaxy smartphones or Samsung TVs.

Caregivers can get notifications when the elderly arrive at or leave a place, ensuring their safety. For example, people can get notified when their parents return home from their morning walk.

SmartThings Family Care can help caregivers automate compatible devices for saving energy. For example, an AC can be turned off when the elderly leave their room or home. Another example is automatically turning on an air purifier when outdoor pollutants are high.

Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings, said, “We developed Family Care to address the persistent, real-world challenges families face in a rapidly aging society. By integrating advanced AI technology, we aim to provide smarter, more intuitive solutions that enhance the quality of life for our customers and their loved ones.
