The Union Health Ministry announced on Saturday that no cases of Monkeypox have been reported in Indiabut precautionary measures will still be implemented to prevent and control the spread of the disease. While acknowledging the potential for a few imported cases in the coming weeks, the ministry assessed the risk of a large outbreak with sustained transmission in India as currently low.

During a meeting chaired by Union Health Minister JP Nadda, it was noted that Monkeypox infections are typically self-limiting, lasting between 2-4 weeks, with patients generally recovering through supportive care.

Transmission typically requires prolonged close contact with an infected individual and usually occurs through sexual contact, direct exposure to bodily fluids or lesions, or contact with contaminated clothing or linens from an infected person.
