Loose contact in ignition in my Triumph Scrambler: Temp solution found

My scrambler has been doing some fairly heavy duty rain riding and also getting the local clean ups post some of these rides. I had taken it to Mulshi late last month and after that its done at least 2-3 morning rainy rides by a friend of mine who had borrowed it for a bit.

Contact issue in ignition

Not sure if anyone else has faced this. Off late, this has happened to my Scrambler more than once, both with me and in the hands of my pal. When you turn the ignition key to the ON position, the display simply doesn’t come up. The issue is clearly some sort of loose contact in the ignition, which seems to be retained moisture induced. The washing may have contributed to this too. A few times, simply turning it back and forth has fixed it but last night this wasn’t working either.

The temp solution

The temp solution is simple (worth noting if anyone else faces this too). Simply spray some WD-40 inside the ignition and the ignition then turns on immediately. I did this as recently as last night too. While this solves the problem, the issue is fundamentally one that should not occur, period.

Discussion with A.S.S team

I raised this with the A.S.S. team at Shaman and apparently there are more such cases where they have received this complaint. For their part, they have given this feedback to the Bajaj-Triumph team. I am hoping that the company may acknowledge and offer some sort of fix for this issue. They’ve been proactive in addressing other issues too and I’m hoping this should be no different. I am planning to stay in touch with the Shaman team to understand a more permanent fix to this but in the meantime, I am keeping the WD 40 with the bike whenever I ride it out, just in case the issue should recur.

Will update if I hear anything further from them on this as well as my own continued experience on the issue.
