The Czech automaker has announced that its upcoming sub-4-meter compact SUV will be called the Skoda Kylaq. The Kylaq, which is a Sanskrit word for crystal, is said to be inspired by Mount Kailash. The new Skoda compact SUV’s India launch is slated for March 2025. The model will be based on Volkswagen’s MQB-AO-IN platform and will carry the brand’s signature design language.

The official teaser reveals that the SUV will feature Skoda’s familiar slatted grille, headlamps in a split setup, and a kinked glasshouse at the front end. It might share some of its design elements with the Kushaq.

The interior could also bear a strong resemblance to the Kushaq midsize SUV. The new Skoda Kylaq is expected to have a digital instrument cluster, a floating touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, USB-C ports, ambient lighting, an auto start-stop function, ABS with electronic stability control and EBD, and a 360-degree camera. Official engine specifications of the upcoming Skoda compact SUV are yet to be revealed. However, the model is likely to come with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine and two gearbox options—a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. This gasoline unit delivers a peak power of 115 bhp and 178 Nm of torque.

The carmaker aims to sell around 60,000 to 90,000 units of the Skoda Kylaq compact SUV annually. In the sub-4-meter SUV segment, this new model will compete with cars like the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
