Last week we saw how a Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Stree 2 destroyed two films starring stars like Akshay Kumar and John Abraham. Both Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa turned out to be washouts in the Stree 2 wave.
Well, there’s a chance that a similar scenario might repeat soon in October.

The film in question is Kanguva, an epic pan-Indian project starring Suriya, directed by Siva. Its release date is October 10, 2024. It will see Bobby Deol as the antagonist and Disha Patani making her Tamil debut.
On the same day, Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, will also hit theaters. This film boasts a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan. Rajinikanth will play a police officer, promising an action-packed performance.

Interestingly, while Kanguva and Vettaiyan will primarily compete for screens in the Tamil market, they will face additional competition in the pan-India market.
Vasan Bala’s Bollywood escape drama Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, is also set for release on October 11, 2024.

While Jigra isn’t as hyped as Stree 2 it can still dent Rajinikanth and Suriya’s films. Alia Bhatt is a big star with a formidable following and goodwill. If Jigra delivers big on content it might harm Vettaiyan and Kanguva in Hindi markets.
If this happens, this would be another case where a female-led film dominates films of two superstars.
