Vijayawada: The central crime station (CCS) police on Friday arrested a chain snatcher and seized 87 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 6.10 lakh from his possession. The accused, Y. Sai Teja Reddy, a graduate, is a native of Lingamguntla village in Narasaraopet Mandal of Palnadu district.
ACP (crime) Sravanthi Roy said acting on a tip-off, CCS inspector (central division) S. V. V. Lakshmi Narayana and his team caught Reddy while he was moving suspiciously near ISKCON temple in Ramalingeswara Nagar under Patamata police station limits.
The police said he was into various types of crimes including online cricket betting. He admitted to committing chain snatchings to cover his expenses. He wore a helmet and rode a Yamaha FZ while carrying out crimes in Narasaraopet and Vijayawada.
The ACP said Reddy was involved in three chain snatchings over last three months under Patamata and Machavaram police station limits. He visited Vijayawada to sell the stolen gold ornaments, the police added.
