Revu review: An intense revenge story

Story

The rivalry between Ankalu (Vamsi Ram Pendyala) and Gangaiah (Ajay), two fishermen, takes a new turn with the arrival of Nagesu (Yepuri Hari), who has a huge fishing vessel. Together with other fishermen, they fight against Nagesu’s terror rule.

Analysis

“Revu,” directed by Harinath Puli, is an intense drama that delves deep into the lives of coastal communities. The director first focuses on establishing the community’s lives and lifestyles. Until the interval twist happens, it moves at a slow pace.

The second half takes on a more serious tone as well as a violent mode. Although it is mostly predictable, with its intense storytelling, the film holds our interest to some extent. It paints a different picture of fishing villages, far from what we have seen in the films so far.

But it has very limited appeal. There isn’t much in the retribution parts that will grab your interest, except for a couple of raw sequences. It runs mostly in a predictable pattern.

The performances are strong. All actors are natural and give believable performances. The songs are not catchy, but the background score is good. The film scores big on production design.

Bottomline: Though it is a revenge story, “Revu” makes an okay watch due to the different backdrop. Despite predictability, the believable performances make up the lacuna.Though it is a revenge story, “Revu” makes an okay watch due to the different backdrop.
