Doctors from Telangana who have been protesting for the past 10 days demanding justice in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata have called off their strike. The strike was called off after receiving written assurances from Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha.

The Telangana Junior Doctors Association and Resident Doctors Association of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hyderabad will be returning back to their duties from Saturday morning.

Dr. Kommu Rahul, President of the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (T-JUDA), announced that the strike has been called off following a positive response from government authorities.

“All medical services, including outpatient care, elective surgeries, ward duties and emergency services, will resume without disruption starting Saturday,” said Dr. Rahul. “However, if we detect any further instances of injustice, T-JUDA will not hesitate to initiate another strike,” he added.

“As dedicated doctors, patient care is our top priority. Therefore, we have decided to resume our duties starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday,” stated Dr. Rajkiran Emmadi, President of NIMS RDA.

The doctors had put forth demands, including justice for the victim and her family, the implementation of the Central Protection Act and the immediate deployment of Special Protection Force (SPF) at government hospitals in Telangana.
