The HYDRA team’s recent demolition of Akkineni Nagarjuna’s N-Convention in Hyderabad has sent shockwaves through the film industry, real estate circles, and political leaders. The action was taken following complaints that the convention center was illegally constructed on three and a half acres of the Tummadi pond, leading to widespread controversy and discussions.

This issue isn’t new; the N-Convention has been a contentious topic since its inception. Back in 2016, TDP MLA Revanth Reddy publicly questioned the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government regarding Nagarjuna’s alleged encroachments.

The controversy dates back to before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh when TRS, in its campaign, highlighted several properties like Lanco Hills, Ramoji Film City, Padmalaya Studios, and the N-Convention as illegal encroachments by Andhra-based individuals to appeal to Telangana voters.

However, once TRS came to power, the aggressive stance on these encroachments seemed to wane, particularly as Nagarjuna reportedly developed a close relationship with K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), a key TRS leader. This relationship allegedly led to the issue being sidelined for years.

The situation took a dramatic turn with the HYDRA team’s intervention, which resulted in the demolition of the convention center. Revanth Reddy, who had been vocal about the issue for years, appears to have played a significant role in bringing this action to fruition.

His stance has garnered unexpected support from BJP MP Raghunandan Rao, who not only backed the demolition but also criticized Nagarjuna’s subsequent appeal for a stay in the High Court. Rao accused Nagarjuna of leveraging his connections with KTR to avoid legal consequences and called for the recovery of all the funds generated by the convention center, which reportedly charged around one crore per function.

This alignment between Revanth Reddy and a BJP leader, especially considering Reddy’s Congress affiliation, has raised eyebrows. It suggests a convergence of interests between certain factions within the BJP and those opposed to the TRS, particularly in holding high-profile individuals accountable for alleged encroachments.

The demolition has reignited discussions about illegal encroachments and the selective enforcement of the law, with HYDRA’s actions being seen as a significant step in addressing long-standing grievances. The incident has not only impacted Nagarjuna but has also brought attention to broader issues of land encroachment and political influence in Telangana.
