The Union Council of Ministers greenlighted multiple projects in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

One of the key decisions taken in the meeting was to allocate 12 industrial smart cities across the ten states. The cities will come up along six major industrial corridors.

Speaking in a media conference, union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the central government approved to set up 12 industrial corridors worth Rs. 28,602 crore, across India.

The list includes Orvakal and Kopparthy from Andhra Pradesh, Zaheerabad from Telangana, Jodhpur and Pali from Rajasthan, Palakkad from Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj from Uttar Pradesh, Gaya in Bihar, Rajpura and Patiala from Punjab, Khurpia from Uttarakhand and Dhigi from Maharashtra.

Speaking at another press meet in Delhi, Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed that Kopparthy of Kadapa district will become a smart city, and 2596 acres of land will be developed as part of this. The industrial hub that will be established will provide employment opportunities to 54,500 members.

On the other hand, Orvakallu in Kurnool district will also have an industrial hub. For the same, 2621 acres of land will be developed. The hub will generate employment opportunities for 45,000 individuals.

The government will spend Rs. 2137 crore rupees and Rs. 2786 crore rupees for the development of Kopparthy and Orvakallu respectively.

Ram Mohan Naidu added that the central government would develop the Bengaluru-Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial corridors.
