Jeep India is planning to expand its product portfolio with a new SUV that will be priced in the sub-Rs 20 lakh segment. Speaking to an online media publication, Shailesh Hazela, MD and CEO of Stellantis India, revealed that the new Jeep SUV will retain “the Jeep DNA, with integrated tech.” The model, which will be built on Citroen’s CMP (Common Modular Platform), is likely to come with an AWD (all-wheel drive) or 4X4 drivetrain. It won’t be an India-specific model but will serve Jeep’s global markets as well.
In India, the new Jeep SUV will challenge the dominance of the Hyundai Creta in the midsize SUV segment. It will also compete against cars like the Tata Curvv, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
The American SUV maker hasn’t yet revealed the name or details of the upcoming model. It’s rumored to be the Jeep Renegade, which will be offered globally with the EP6DT 1.6L direct-injection turbo petrol engine, delivering multiple power outputs ranging from 150PS to 180PS. This motor belongs to PSA-BMW’s compact engine ‘Prince’ family and powers several Citroen and Peugeot vehicles. The model will measure nearly 4.2 meters in length.
The Jeep Renegade carries the brand’s signature design language and features LED headlamps and DRLs, bumper-integrated clear-lens turn indicators as seen in the Wrangler, LED fog lamps, and LED taillamps.
Inside, the SUV will have a larger touchscreen infotainment system with the latest wireless smartphone connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital TFT cluster, automatic climate control, a reverse parking camera, a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, a leather gear knob, a 4-way manually adjustable passenger seat, a 6-speaker sound system, blind spot detection with rear cross path, lane departure warning plus, electric servo-assisted steering, forward collision warning plus with mitigation, emergency brake assist, tire pressure monitoring display, electronic stability control with hill start assist, and more.
