Apple has introduced a new AI-powered image-editing tool called Clean Up, which allows users to remove unwanted objects from photos. This feature works like Google’s Magic Editor, a tool available for free on both Android and iOS devices via the Google Photos app.
Currently, the Clean Up tool is limited to the 3rd developer beta of iOS 18.1available only on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Other eligible iPhones running the iOS 18 developer beta 8 do not have access to this new photo editing tool, although the update does include generative AI summaries from all apps.
The Clean Up feature can be accessed through the Photos app and uses smart detection to automatically identify and remove unwanted objects with a single click. After removing an object, the tool uses a technique similar to generative fill to make the photo appear unedited.
It is unclear as of now whether this feature will remain exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro series or if it will be expanded to other models with the official release of iOS 18.1.
This update arrives just days before Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” eventwhere the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 series, Apple Watch Series 10, Watch Ultra 3, new iPad mini, and more.
