The MG Windsor EV is the next major product launch from the British automaker in India. Its prices will be officially revealed on 11th September; however, ahead of its market arrival, select MG dealers have started accepting pre-bookings for the vehicle. This electric offering is expected to come at a starting price of around Rs 20 lakh and won’t have any direct rivals in the country.
Its entry-level variants, however, will compete with the top trims of the Mahindra XUV400 EV and Tata Nexon EV, which are currently available within the price range of Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 19.39 lakh and Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh, respectively (all ex-showroom).
Based on the Wuling Cloud EV, which is sold in Indonesia, the MG Windsor EV is likely to be offered with a 50.6kWh battery pack and an electric motor. It delivers a maximum power of 136PS and 200Nm of torque. With this setup, the new compact EV will offer a range of 460km on a single charge. In select global markets, the Cloud EV is also offered with a 37.9kWh battery pack, promising a range of 360km. The official specifications of the India-spec Windsor are yet to be revealed by the carmaker.
The carmaker has already released a few teasers of the new Windsor EV, revealing some of its key features. Interestingly, the compact EV has the largest 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system in its segment, along with an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display.
The infotainment unit will support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as connected car tech. It comes with a fixed panoramic glass roof and lounge-like reclining rear seats (up to 135 degrees) with a large honeycomb pattern.
Features such as wireless phone charging, electrically adjustable front seats, automatic climate control with rear vents, and a powered tailgate will also be offered. The six airbags could be standard across the model lineup. The MG Windsor EV might also come with a 360-degree camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, an ADAS suite, and an electronic parking brake.
