Tumbbad Re-Release Ticket Sales Not Reported So Far

2024 has been all about re-releasing cult classic films. Bollywood’s condition is so bad right now that the theatres have opted to accumulate profits by bringing back the old films to the big screen. This is not a new strategy except that it was limited to one or two films in a year.

Notably, the process has been followed only for those films that were released 10-15 years ago. But it is slowly being applied to the films that did not emerge successful around 3-4 years ago and the re-release has proved to be beneficial for the producers of those projects.

While we have mostly known Vikram Bhatt and Ramsay Brothers as experts when it comes to horror films, producer Sohum Shah decided to enter the genre in 2018 with Tumbbad. There was hardly any buzz and it eventually managed to recover the budget with box office collections considering that only Rs. 5 crores were invested.

But if we recall the film in today’s world, the overall collection of Rs. 13 crores is not up to the mark. There have been several low-budget films that were released this year and they managed to impress the audience. The collections were also surprising since they crossed more than Rs. 50 crores in most cases. Another example is 12th Fail, which grossed Rs. 64 crores on a budget of Rs. 20 crores.

Looking at the above examples, it is clear that Tumbbad deserved more. While the film is gearing up for a re-release on August 30, 2024, audiences have expressed their excitement on different social media platforms. Notably, there are fewer shows since three films, including Stree 2 have not completed their run yet, and Nani’s Saripodhaa Sanivaaram has also been released.

What’s more surprising for now is that no one has reported the exact ticket sales of the re-release so far. This is unexpected since the same thing did not happen when Laila Majnu and Rockstar arrived for another time on the big screen this month. Although many people would say that this report is unnecessary, everyone needs to know the truth.

The reason is the trend of corporate bookings. This is a claim that has been made frequently whenever the film of any big star is supposed to arrive on the big screen. The most recent use of the word happened when Kalki 2898 AD was released this year. It was previously used for films like Pathaan, Jawan, Animal, Dunki, and Gadar 2.

There are trade analysts who have confirmed the existence of corporate bookings, where tickets are pre-booked by different groups when a film is about to be released. However, there is no specific evidence to confirm that certain practices are still being followed.

On the other hand, it would be unfair to bring the concept of unfair bookings for a film like Tumbbad. Everyone is well aware of the reviews that the film received at the time of release and there are YouTube videos of public reactions to prove the flawlessness of the film. It can be said with conviction that the response will be better this time and the buzz is a little bit low, possibly because people hardly know about the re-release.

Tumbbad has got a huge fan following over the years and the re-release could be a hint to provide further updates about the sequel, which was announced by Sohum Shah back in 2018.
