Badoni set a new world record with 19 sixes in his innings, surpassing previous records by cricket legends Chris Gayle and Sahil Chauhan.
In an incredible highest partnership in T20 cricket for any wicket — 286 — with Priyansh Arya, Badoni took the North Delhi Strikers to the cleaners at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Badoni’s 165 runs came off just 55 balls, featuring eight fours and the record 19 sixes, breaking the previous record of 18 sixes in a T20 innings.
The record was jointly held by Chris Gayle, who hit 18 sixes in his 69-ball 146 for Rangpur Riders in the 2017 Bangladesh Premier League, and Sahil Chauhan of Estonia, who achieved the same feat in a T20 International against Cyprus earlier this year.
Arya’s 120 from 50 balls included 10 sixes and 10 fours as he reached his century off 40 balls. In his blistering knock, Arya dispatched Manan Bhardwaj for six sixes in an over.
Badoni and Arya also shattered the record for the highest partnership for any wicket in T20 cricket. Their 286-run stand for the second wicket surpassed the previous record of 258 runs set by Japan’s Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake and Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming against China earlier this year.
South Delhi Superstarz’s total of 308/5 fell just six runs short of the highest team total in T20 history, which stands at 314/3 by Nepal against Mongolia in the 2023 Asian Games men’s competition.
