Vijayawada: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and AP State Disaster Response Force (APSDRF) evacuated on Tuesday 14,452 people from flood-affected areas of Vijayawada and other parts of NTR district. They shifted the rescued to 70 relief centres set up at different places in the district. Personnel of the disaster response forces deployed nearly 100 boats in various flood-hit areas to evacuate the victims to safer places.
Apart from humans, NDRF personnel also rescued several goats stranded in Annavarapu Lanka village of Guntur district and shifted them to an upland area on Tuesday afternoon. In view of the flood situation in Vijayawada and parts of NTR district, collector G. Srijana has declared a holiday for all government and public schools on Wednesday.
About 500 NSS volunteers from SRR and CVR Government Degree College, Siddharth College, Nalanda College, KBN College, Maris Stella College, and Pharmacy College helped in providing relief to people in the flood-affected areas.
TR district NSS coordinator Dr. Kolleti Ramesh said for past two days, volunteers have been providing food, drinking water and milk to people in Ajith Singh Nagar, New and Old Rajarajeshwaripet and Krishna Lanka areas. Besides, the district administration has opened 70 medical camps, providing free medicines to patients. Drones are being used to provide medicines to patients marooned in flooded areas.
