Hyderabad: Dozens of posh villas in Mokila continue to reel in water for the second consecutive day with people forced to stay indoors making arrangements for medicine and other groceries including milk through some people who volunteered to step out.

In some gated communities located, waterlogged roads, submerged cars, people walking in knee-deep water were a common sight. LA Paloma Villas and Westend Greens were the most affected.

Water from multiple places gushed into LA Paloma Villas with no channel for it to exit, while water from nearby fields entered Westend Greens. The residents of the affected communities have decided to submit a representation to the government, highlighting their plight in spite of paying hefty sums as tax.

The LA Paloma Villas residents blamed the adjacent villa projects for the situation. “The surrounding communities have built walls blocking the free flow of water. In addition to this, the under-construction project adjacent to our society is also responsible for the apathy,” said a resident from LA Paloma Villas.

Raja Chandra Gajula, president of the society, urged the authorities to fix the problem on priority. While officials of HMDA said the irrigation department should fix water logging issues, the irrigation officials put the onus on HMDA.

Another resident said that around 1,000 people, including senior citizens and children stay in their society, and all of them are suffering for the last two days.

A resident from Westend Greens blamed the BRS government for the apathy. “Mokila was projected as a futuristic city when they tried to auction the government land here but the monsoon has exposed lack of infrastructure. At least this government should come to our rescue,” he said.

“As this is a developing place, there are no markets in the nearby area for the community. We are coordinating with each other through the WhatsApp groups, while some people have volunteered to step out and bring essentials and medicines for everybody,” said a resident from LA Paloma Villas.
