India at Paris 2024 Paralympic Games LIVE Updates: Another record was broken by the Indian contingent on Friday at the Paris Paralympics, with the sixth gold medal added to tally by Praveen Kumar. Tokyo Games silver medalist Praveen this time went one better as he won gold in the men’s high jump T64 final. India had won five gold medals in Tokyo, and in Paris, they have now won six.
Praveen had clean jumps all the way till 2.08m, breaking the Asian Record with his new Personal Best. USA’s Derek Loccident claimed the silver with a best jump of 2.06m. Poland’s Maciej Lepiato and Uzbekistan’s Temurbek Giyazov cleared 2.03m, finished joint third and won two bronze medals in this event.
India’s track and field athlete Simran, who came agonisingly close to win a medal and finished fourth in the Women’s 100m T12 will be in action in the Women’s 200 T12 semifinal later tonight. Accompanied by her guide Abhay Singh, Simran finished first in her Heat. In Men’s 400m – T47 Round 1, Dilip Gavit finished third in his heat and reached the final as well that will take place on Saturday. In the men’s javelin throw F54 final, Dipesh Kumar finished seventh.
Later in the night, in women’s javelin throw F46 final, Bhavanaben Ajabaji Chaudhary will take to the field. In men’s shot put F57 final, Soman Rana and Hokato Hotozhe Sema will be in action. Sema had finished 4th at the Worlds earlier this year. In para powerlifting, Kasthuri Rajmani will be in action in women’s 67 kg final.
On Thursday, India’s 25th medal was won by Kapil Parmar, who made history by winning India’s first-ever Para Judo medal at the Paralympics, defeating Elielton de Oliveira of Brazil with an Ippon.
