Solving Maruti Suzuki Jimny’s luggage issue. Which roof box mount?

Given the fact that how premium the luggage space is in Jimny, I have decided to add some luggage capacity.

BHPian HTC recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Need some inputs for my Jimny.

1) Roof box fitment:

I try to keep the vehicle as stock as possible. But given the fact that how premium the luggage space is in Jimny, I have decided to add some luggage capacity. I have an Inno roof rack lying with me. Realized that it fits perfectly on the Jimny roof. The model I have is not broad but little tall. This helps in keeping 3-4 duffle bags which can help in keeping clothes and other bulky stuff for longer travel.

My inno box placed on Jimny roof for reference.

For mounting the roofbox, I had couple of thouhts for which I need some inputs

  • Option 1: Is there a way to mount the roof box on roof rack? I am thinking of dual purpose roof rack. When roof box is removed, the rack remains and can be used to carry luggage. more over, half of the roof area is free when the box is used, which can be used to carry additional stuff. Im leaning towards aluminum roof racks which are lighter and durable compared to steel ones. Any pointers on this?
  • Option 2: Go with roof cross bars. I have shortlisted two brands.

Harman impex: costs 17k including shipping. looks sleek and sits low.

Farad cross bars: costs 20k including shipping. looks sturdy and sits a bit taller.

Which one do you think is better?

Harman impex’s roof bars (says imported from japan)

Farad’s Alu cross bars on Jimny

2) Dashcam:

Non-expensive dual channel dashcam which suits jimny’s almost vertical front and rear windshields. Prefer the ones with parking surveillance feature and plan to hardwire it to OBD port for continuous monitoring even when car is switched off. I have gone though the dashcam thread aswell. would love to hear from Jimny owners. Hence asking here.

*Note: Photo credits to respective owners.

cheers
