What’s the Next Tata EV Launch?

Tata Motors is India’s leading EV manufacturer, with cumulative sales of over 1.5 lakh electric cars. In the financial year 2024, the company retailed 73,800 EVs, compared to 50,000 units in FY2023, recording a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 48 percent. Tata’s existing EV product portfolio includes five models – Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV – priced from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh, catering to a wide customer base. Launched in the first week of August 2024, the Tata Curvv EV is the latest entrant, available with two battery packs – 45kWh and 55kWh.

Following the Curvv EV, the indigenous automaker will introduce the electric iteration of the Harrier SUV in the ongoing financial year, ending on 31st March 2025. It will be Tata’s flagship electric SUV, expected to be priced above Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Similar to the Punch EV, the Tata Harrier EV will be built on the brand’s Acti.ev architecture and support both V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) charging.

The specifications of the Tata Harrier EV are still under wraps. However, it’s expected to be offered with a 60kWh battery pack, delivering a range of around 500km on a full charge. It will feature dual electric motors, one on each axle, with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup.

We saw the Harrier EV in its concept form at the 2023 Auto Expo, and its prototypes during testing. Its design and silhouette will be similar to its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. However, a few EV-specific design elements will distinguish it, such as a closed-off grille, connected LED lighting elements on both the front and rear, revised bumpers, and newly designed alloy wheels.

Most of its features will be similar to the ICE-powered Harrier. It’s likely to come with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated and powered front seats, dual-zone automatic AC, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, seven airbags, ESC, ADAS, a gesture-enabled powered tailgate, and more.
