Reigning star Ram Charan upcoming film ‘Game Changer’ is set to be released on December 25 (Christmas Day) to cash in on the long weekend. “With December 25 being a Wednesday, the much-awaited film has a longer weekend to register sensational openings. These days, films are released on Thursday like ‘G.O.A.T’ and ‘Saripodhaaa’ and draw good openings,” says a source. He claims that the Ram Charan-Shankar movie was made with over Rs 400 crores and it has to draw huge openings. “The heady combination of Ram Charan and Shankar has triggered a lot of hype but later expectations dropped after series of postponements, but now it has to garner record breaking openings to reach safety zone,” he adds.
These releases also all broke the myth that a film should not be released on working days and audiences would give it a miss. “Fans of superstars don’t mind watching their favourite star film on a week day because watching it’s first show on the first day has its own charm and kick,” he points out. He claims that star-studded movies need to have longer weekends to garner big collections because these day’s openings are more important than longer runs. “Days of films making money in the long run have gone. Now, it is only three or four days that would decide the fate of a film at the box office,” he adds.
Nevertheless, director Shankar would be hoping to make a comeback of sorts with ‘Game Changer’ since his last outing ‘Indian 2’ tanked at the box office. “This film’s success is more important for Shankar than Ram Charan,” he concludes.
