Skoda Kylaq Production To Begin Next Month

Skoda Kylaq, the first-ever compact SUV from the Czech automaker in India, is set to hit the roads by March 2025. The carmaker says its name is inspired by Mount Kailash, and it also aligns with the brand’s SUV nomenclature. According to a fresh media report, the new Skoda compact SUV will enter production by October 2024. Once launched, it will compete directly with the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Tata Nexon.

It would be quite early to comment on its pricing. However, it’s expected to come within an aggressive price range, considering the heavily localized MQB A0 IN platform. This same architecture underpins the Skoda Slavia sedan and Kushaq midsize SUV. Production of the Kylaq will take place at Skoda’s Chakan-based facility, with an expected annual production of nearly 50,000–70,000 units.

Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language will debut with the Kylaq. Official teasers and design sketches reveal that the compact SUV will feature a familiar slatted grille, a split headlamp setup, and a kinked glasshouse. Compared to the Kushaq, the Skoda Kylaq will have a slightly shorter wheelbase and smaller front and rear overhangs.

Interior details of the upcoming Skoda compact SUV are still under wraps. However, the model is likely to have a cabin layout similar to the Kushaq. Features such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, ventilated leatherette seats, wireless phone charging, an auto-dimming IRVM, keyless entry and go, and an in-car connectivity suite could also be borrowed from its elder sibling. Rumor has it that Skoda might also equip the Kylaq with ADAS technology and a 360-degree camera.

The 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine might also be sourced from the Kushaq. This gasoline motor, paired with a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic gearbox, delivers a claimed power of 115bhp and 178Nm.
