All-New Volkswagen Compact SUV – 1st Teaser Released

The very first teaser of the upcoming Volkswagen Ao compact SUV has been released ahead of its global debut in 2025. The model, which will be positioned below the Taigun in VW’s global product portfolio, will first be introduced in the Brazilian market. Its official name is yet to be revealed, though the new Volkswagen compact SUV is likely to be named ‘Volkswagen Yeh’. It will also make its way to other emerging markets; however, there is no official word on its India launch.

The new Volkswagen Ao compact SUV will be based on the MQB-A0-IN variable platform, which has been designed to meet all the requirements of emerging markets. As this highly localized architecture supports different body styles and wheelbases, it helps improve efficiency with better economies of scale and enables the production of more products at a faster pace. The MQB-A0-IN features a transverse engine installation, tilted slightly forward, with the distance from the middle of the front wheel to the pedals being the same across models. This setup not only provides uniformity in the front end but also creates ample cabin space.

The MQB-A0-IN platform also underpins other VW models, including the current-generation Polo hatchback and globally sold VW T-Cross and Nivus SUVs. Skoda’s upcoming Kylaq compact SUV will also be based on the same architecture. The upcoming Volkswagen compact SUV is expected to measure around 4 meters in length and have a wheelbase of 2.5 meters.

The official teaser shows a black, slimmer front grille with the signature logo in the center. It features LED DRLs connected by a chrome strip, a taller bumper, darkened fog lamp assembly, body-colored ORVMs and door handles, and black roof rails. The Volkswagen Ao is also likely to have a connected LED taillamp assembly at the rear.
