Triumph Motorcycles has introduced its most affordable 400cc bike in the country, called the Triumph Speed T4, priced at Rs 2.17 lakh. It’s essentially a toned-down version of the Speed 400, which recently received an update. The Speed T4 comes with a slightly less powerful engine and misses out on some features compared to the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X.
Starting with the engine, the Triumph Speed T4 uses a 398cc, liquid-cooled, four-valve engine sourced from the Speed 400. However, this motor has been retuned to generate less power and torque. The bikemaker claims that the new Triumph 400cc bike offers better low-end torque and rideability with fewer gear shifts in the low to mid-speed range. This engine now delivers a maximum power of 30.6bhp and 36Nm of torque. Its top speed has been reduced to 135kmph. For transmission duties, it is equipped with a 6-speed gearbox featuring a slipper clutch.
What differentiates it from the Speed 400 is the conventional telescopic front fork (instead of the big-piston USD unit) along with the monoshock rear suspension. Braking duties are handled by a 300mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc, further assisted by dual-channel ABS. The new Triumph Speed T4 comes with 110-section front and 140-section rear tyres.
Most of its design elements are similar to the Triumph Speed 400. The Triumph Speed T4 shares the same chassis and features the same sculpted fuel tank, round LED headlamp, single-piece seat, alloy wheels, tail lamp, and exhaust. The analogue instrument cluster with an integrated LCD screen has also been borrowed from its sibling.
The new Speed T4 is offered in three different color options: Phantom Black, Metallic White, and Cocktail Wine Red. The bike misses out on the gold finish on the front suspension and traction control, which are available on the Triumph Speed 400.
